  1. The book Internet Tour Guide comes with a disk containing something called
  2. the 'Chameleon Sampler' from NetManage.  It is a SLIP/PPP *only* TCP/IP
  3. WINSOCK stack that also comes with TELNET, PING, FTP, MAIL, and TN3270.

  5. If you get the book read the 'readme' file before doing the install.  The
  6. install will be somewhat easier if you happen to subscribe to certain
  7. internet providers since it has 'canned' configuration files for them.  If
  8. you dont subscribe to these than things can get tricky.  Dont be suprised
  9. if when following the install procedure from the book that things dont work
  10. the same.  But dont let this stop you, its fairly easy to muddle through
  11. it.

  13. NOTE: With such a broad range of hardware/software solutions with WINDOWS,
  14. each persons experience in setting this may be different.

  16. Once setup, it work fairly consistently.  Its a good deal at $25 dollars.
  17. One reason not to use this and go with something like TRUMPET would be
  18. that there is less of a chance of getting a future release of this than
  19. with TRUMPET WINSOCK.  Otherwise, for me, performance for TRUMPET and
  20. CHAMELEON SAMPLER was about the same.

  22. On the plus side, the applications that come with the CHAMELEON SAMPLER
  23. are of good quality, in particular TELNET.
